Basshunter: 'Walk On Water'

Basshunter: 'Walk On Water'

Basshunter has returned with a drastic overhaul and re-invention of his previous smash hit club music – forget that, who am I kidding?

The supreme dance sensation, who for periods of 2008 ruled the charts including a five-week stint at number one with ‘Now Your Gone’, has returned with his latest effort, ‘Walk on Water.’

Being the fifth single from a now exhausted debut LP, you could be forgiven for being sceptical by saying that he is continuing to flog a dead horse. A counter argument would immediately set in, why stop if the punters love it?

‘Walk on Water’, which came out on April 6th, contains the stereotypical Basshunter euro-dance sound, accompanied by his usual, pounding beat. The track opens with “lalalalala”, as lyrics, which immediately smacks me as simple and unconventional. However, ever one to reserve judgement a while longer, the track continued into a flowing, promising piece, with the verse “I can walk on water, I can fly, I will keep on fighting until I die”, sure to be chanted by many a drunk raver in the early hours outside the kebab house.

It is then after these opening 40 seconds of promise that the song again dips in my opinion.  Once again the “lalala” lyrics come into play, by which time I deem it right to tear my hair out. It seems that these points are “unfinished” in the way that a small child would rush his homework on a sunny day to go out and play with his friends, adding any words just to make his homework look bigger. In short, they lack imagination and seem clueless.

While not in the same league as the epic dance floor thriller ‘Now Your Gone’, the song does have a  catchy rhythm after listening to it enough times, ensuring that it will annoyingly stick in your head for the rest of the day. With summer approaching, the dance fanatics will not care for its lack of imagination, and will surely greet it as another Basshunter success.
