Gathered in a small studio in London’s Soho, you have to wonder what could possibly be so impressive about the new Gorillaz video that Britain’s journalists have been shepherded together for a screening. New single “On Melancholy Hill”...
Sometimes, (not often mind), you go to see a band with a vague sense of expectation, born from nothing more than early releases and odd pieces of press, only for, by some twist of fate, this band you considered “fairly decent” until now to prove one of the...

“I was Dj’ing at Mad Decent events in Birmingham when I had this idea come to me...”, sounds like a line from the latest Windows advert. But instead of thinking of ways to complicate PC’s, Tom Short, aka Shorterz, was instead dreaming up his own record label...

The Noughties are over and we have to say goodbye to the first decade of the Millennium. It is a shame because there was many zeitgeist breaking moments in the decade in the music world. The irony then, that 2009 was a pretty nondescript year, is not lost...
I don’t know about you, but I’m sick and tired of seeing television programmes lamenting what a piss poor decade the so-called ‘noughties’ have been. I mean, a decade is just a period of time definable by the fact that it spans exactly ten years...

When: 14th - 18th June 2010
Where: Pembrey Country Park, South Wales
This year sees the return of the UK's biggest student festival, and the ONLY place to be from 14th to 18th June: Beach Break Live 2010, set in the picturesque surroundings of Pembrey Country Park, South Wales. The perfect way to forget dissertations, exams and deadlines, and start the Summer in style.
After winning the 'Best Small Festival' and 'Best Promoter' titles at last year's UK Festival Awards, 2010 sees Beach Break Live only get bigger and better. With the capacity for a whopping 17,500 students, graduates and whoever else wants to come, the festival has bagged a new site with eight miles of brilliant white sands, a woodland adventure park and dry ski slope.
The insanely tempting line-up in store for this year is sure to keep everyone from the indie kids to drum & bass fiends up for the weekend. Headlining the monster line-up is chart-topping King of electropop Calvin Harris, kicking off his tour of the summer festival circuit right here, and bringing his Number 1 dance tracks to the beaches of South Wales.
Joining him at the top of the line up this year are the front-runners in the UK Drum & Bass scene: Chase & Status. Favourites of Zane Lowe and Annie Mac, this duo have scored chart success with the likes of Plan B and will be tearing up the dance floor at Beach Break Live fresh from their live Spring Tour.

Brit Awards Critics Choice winner Ellie Goulding is also confirmed to bring her synth-laced catchy folk-pop to the party and join the headliners on the main stage - the starry-eyed songstress is sure to provide the soundtrack to your summer so don't miss out!
Also confirmed is singer/rapper/actor Plan B - this man that can turn his hand to just about anything; his unusual blend of acoustic and controversial lyrics is an aural treat. Joining him is cockney electro boy Example, hip-hop/spoken word duo Dan Le Sac and Scroobius Pip, and the infamously comical Beardyman, ready to stun the crowd with his beatboxing skills. Wow.
Next up and taking one home for the indie kids is The Futureheads. With the release of their new album Chaos imminent, these Sunderland boys are moving their sparkly art-rock in a new direction and ready to take students and all with them.
They will be joined by new wave post-punk revivalists New Young Pony Club. With a critically-acclaimed second album under their belts, their glistening, sassy, energetic performance is a sight to behold.

New faces at the festival include 16-year-old songstress Daisy Dares You, who has recently been profiled as an artist to watch in 2010 by the BBC, The Times and The Guardian, and Sting's (yes THE Sting) daughter Coco Sumner will treat the crowds with her summery blend of reggae and pop as she performs as I Blame Coco.
For those who like to stay up that little bit later and party that little bit harder, there are a whole host of DJs lined up for the weekend, including the one and only Radio 1's Annie Mac, Drum & Bass heavyweight Sub Focus, electro idol Fake Blood and Yorkshire-bred DJ and remixer Toddla T. Also bringing the beats to the party are old skool favourites Scratch Perverts and Dub Pistols Sound System as well as a hell of a lot more!
It's all about the music, dancing, beers, cocktails, beachside BBQs, sunbathing, games and more this year at Beach Break Live. As well as the main stage, the festival has loads more tents for all, including the Residential Dance Tent, Bass Busting Dance Tent, the Ridiculously Hot Tubs (YES HOT TUBS!), the Camped Up Camp Fire, Chai Wallah's and the Moustache Bar, where real and fake moustaches are essential.
On top of all this, Beach Break Live also offers a hoard of offsite activities and beachside sports from surfing to wakeboarding, volleyball to ultimate frisbee, as well as their BBL workshops, where you can learn the art of origami, how to knit the perfect tea cosy for your nan, and even backflip over walls.
So if you fancy all the fun of the major UK festivals at half the price (a measly £89 per ticket with the option of paying an initial deposit), get yourselves onto the website www.beachbreaklive.com to find out more. See you on the sand!
