Bloc party: Signs (AVH Remix)

Bloc party: Signs (AVH Remix)

As the group embark on the release of their second remix album, Bloc Party turn to the experienced hand of DJ Arman Van Helden for their track 'Signs'.

A sharp and edgy approach makes for a compelling listen, which also brings a comfortable feel, in the knowledge that Van Helden is the man behind the track.

Simple yet effective is the name of the game for this track, with fairly fast paced beats and repetitive drilling of sounds giving the track fresh substance as it goes along.

The experimental parts of the song are well timed, as Kele Okereke’s voice is drowned and echoed halfway through the song to give the track a digital effect. This is where we know Bloc Party can produce music at the top of the game, never being afraid to challenge themselves to take a more alternative route and transpose into other genres of music.

Parts of the track’s experimental parts remind you of 'Hunting for Witches', where there are hints of industrial sounds here. Electronica also takes centre stage in a lot of the track.

It’s certainly different from the Intimacy original, where its use of tingling triangles and suttle beats with overlapping strings make it a melodic sort of a track. The remix certainly takes a leaf from the Slient Alarm remixes, where it has a good poppy/dance  vibe to it.

Any fans of Bloc Party I’m sure will appreciate the band’s approach again for brave and bold attempts of remixing their often already acclaimed pieces of music. The single is a pleasant and funky listen and is certainly worth a dig.
