Whats New?

Gorillaz Video Screening : Gathered in a small studio in London’s Soho, you have to wonder what could possibly be so impressive about the new Gorillaz video that Britain’s journalists have been shepherded together for a screening. New single “On Melancholy Hill”...
Introducing : Glass Animals : www.4ortherecord.com hit fever pitch this weekend when not 1 but 2 new tracks from the incredible Glass Animals graced our inbox with their presence...
David's Lyre : Masked troubadour, David's Lyre is, like his semi-hidden aesthetic, somewhat of a mystery at present. Although if fairness exists in the world at all...
Frankie & The Heartstrings : Interview : Sometimes, (not often mind), you go to see a band with a vague sense of expectation, born from nothing more than early releases and odd pieces of press, only for, by some twist of fate, this band you considered “fairly decent” until now to prove one of the...
Lunar Youth : Interview : Lunar Youth make the kind of music that makes your heart skip a beat as the emphasis on romance engulfs you in a warm flurry of emotion. It’s really rather lovely. Their nostalgic take on pop, reminiscent of the 80’s penchant for...

Brand New : 'Daisy'

Brand New : 'Daisy'

Released: Out Now!!!

Label: Interscope

You put Brand New’s new album Daisy into the player and immediately have to take it out again when you hear the high pitched notes of an old-fashioned female singer, just to check that you put the right CD in. Be patient though, it only takes 1 minute and 25 seconds before the familiar screams of Jesse Lacey, lead vocalist of the band, burst your eardrums.

If you were expecting a soft relaxing listen, forget it. This album is packed with an array of songs that are raw and unforgiving in all of the right ways.

Brand New truly live up to their name as they seem to become a brand new band with each album they release. Having left behind their teenage angst from past albums, Daisy shows a more mature Brand New.

As a fan of Brand New you come to accept the unpredictable nature of the band and this album is no exception. It is perhaps their most uncharacteristic album yet and is collectively heavier than their past three albums combined.  Sombre tracks such as “Bed”, “Daisy” and “You Stole”, give you a break from the more aggressive tracks, but also seem to confuse the listener making the album difficult to listen to at times.

Bursting with emotions and desperation, every track on Daisy has its own characteristic, good or bad. Brand New continuously challenge themselves as musicians and songwriters, leaving us with an album as diverse as ever.

If you like your music loud and ears ringing, then this album will definitely take you for a ride.
