Whats New?

Gorillaz Video Screening : Gathered in a small studio in London’s Soho, you have to wonder what could possibly be so impressive about the new Gorillaz video that Britain’s journalists have been shepherded together for a screening. New single “On Melancholy Hill”...

David's Lyre : Masked troubadour, David's Lyre is, like his semi-hidden aesthetic, somewhat of a mystery at present. Although if fairness exists in the world at all...
Frankie & The Heartstrings : Interview : Sometimes, (not often mind), you go to see a band with a vague sense of expectation, born from nothing more than early releases and odd pieces of press, only for, by some twist of fate, this band you considered “fairly decent” until now to prove one of the...
Lunar Youth : Interview : Lunar Youth make the kind of music that makes your heart skip a beat as the emphasis on romance engulfs you in a warm flurry of emotion. It’s really rather lovely. Their nostalgic take on pop, reminiscent of the 80’s penchant for...

Brick Lane Takeover

FINAL LINE-UP FOR MACMILLAN'S BRICK LANE TAKEOVER

DJ FORMAT, MIDFIELD GENERAL, TUBELORD AND SOUND OF GUNS ADDED TO THE BILL

Heading up the DJ venue at the Brick Lane Takeover (BLT), taking place on 17 June, is the mighty DJ Format with his explosive cocktail of inspired 80's & 90's hip hop with a good dose of late 60's early 70's funk, rock, jazz thrown in the mix. While Midfield General [DJ] will be mixing up leftfield pop, hip hop, cinematic epics, house, techno and soul.

Also playing will be favorites, Blonde Ambition [DJ's], with their excitable gyrations and funky fresh mixes. The final few bands to show their support are Tubelord with their breakneck pop, anvil-heavy riffs and super-infectious music and Sound of Guns, a five piece Liverpudlian band playing eclectic and raw rock.

Completing this year's already stellar bill of the best new talent around are Jamie Ley, King Jim and Lost on Campus.

XFM's John Kennedy and BLT curator said, "It's great to see a charity reaching people with music - Macmillan's Brick Lane Takeover has very quickly established itself as the place to see some of the best up and coming bands just as they break. I've really loved working on this event as curator and I know the bands on the night will not disappoint."

Headliner Eliza Doolittle said, "I'm so excited to play at this year's Brick Lane Takeover for Macmillan Cancer Support, it's a really great, very intimate setting and Brick Lane's going to be buzzing with all the amazing new talent performing."

Macmillan Cancer Support will once again take over Brick Lane in East London when the second run of its new music event - the Brick Lane Takeover - will welcome 2000 music enthusiasts from 5.30pm through to the early hours.

The all-dayer kicks off at 5.30pm and offers 7 hours of brilliant music from an eclectic mix of some of the best indie, electro, folk and punk rock bands around.  One wristband will give fans access to live music from a host of established acts, across East London's finest venues - 93 Feet East, Vibe Bar, Café 1001, The Brickhouse, Rough Trade, Spitalfields Market and Cargo.

Bands and venues have come together for Macmillan and waived fees to enable this event to happen. Goldheart Assembly commented, "Love Macmillan, love Brick Lane - we can't wait to perform for such an important cause that affects so many of us."

Spitalfields will host live music during lunch time starting at 12.30pm and activities throughout the day including free Benefit 'Brick Lane Makeover's', delicious cake stalls and a hog roast.

Tickets are available NOW from www.bricklanetakeover.com priced at £20 with all proceeds going to help Macmillan continue to provide vital services which help make a real difference to the lives of people affected by cancer.

Finally if you haven't got your ticket yet and you fancy yourself a dancer (whether your style be the good, the bad or the ugly) enter the 'Get your jig on' dance competition. It's as easy as submitting a clip of yourself jiggling, or dad dancing, and you could win the ultimate festival package, including tickets to Bestival!
