Burns : 'So Many Nights'

Burns : 'So Many Nights' EP

Released: 19th April 2010

Label: 21-12 Records

Lauded as one of the best new British DJs, Burns lives up to his lofty tag with the superb So Many Nights EP. Experimental and yet expertly controlled, each mix belies his age and showcases his vast ability.

Despite being the title track, “So Many Nights” is arguably the weakest of a very good bunch. Starting slowly, it features elements similar to established acts. Opening with a beat clearly influenced by the likes of Boys Noize, it progresses into a more pop – friendly verse that Daft Punk would be proud of. Of course such comparisons are nothing but a compliment, but it also hints at a slight lack of originality.

Going slightly obscure unearths Burns at his best, the slow burning "Epilogue" morphing into a crystalised beauty. Like most other work it is simple in premise, yet gloriously well executed. Muted vocals and a rushing beat prove the main focal point, with shimmering synthesisers completing the chaotic ensemble.

It is the magnificent “Kiss 'N Hug” that proves the star of the show. Dipping in and out of clarity, it plays host to an addictive rhythm supported by the familiar crystal synth sound. Whilst none of Burns' work is particularly complex, it is the well polished simplicity that highlights his visionary talent.

With a bright future ahead of him, Burns has made it clear that he has the tools to live up to some high praise. And if So Many Nights is anything to go by, he will continue to get even better.
