David's Lyre : Masked troubadour, David's Lyre is, like his semi-hidden aesthetic, somewhat of a mystery at present. Although if fairness exists in the world at all...
Frankie & The Heartstrings : Interview : Sometimes, (not often mind), you go to see a band with a vague sense of expectation, born from nothing more than early releases and odd pieces of press, only for, by some twist of fate, this band you considered “fairly decent” until now to prove one of the...

Chew Lips : 'Seven'

Chew Lips : 'Seven'

Released: Out Now!!!

Catchy and somewhat irresistable, Chew Lips' latest single “Seven” is one sure to feature on radios and in clubs in the not to distant future.

With the usual drumbeat/synth combo the track is immediately onto a winner, electro tweaks setting the tone almost straight away. Whilst the chorus is that of saccharine proportion and one sure to be ingrained upon the memory for endless hours, the verses suffer from something of on an identity crisis. Unsure if it is dedicated electro or cross over pop, it chooses instead to settle rather disappointingly for the no man's land in between. A curious breakdown threatens to derail the track also, yet passes quickly without too much damage.

Despite this indecisiveness the track succeeds on several levels thanks mostly to vocalist Tigs. With a striking tone perhaps more suited to something more robust than electro/pop crossover, she glides through the track without signs of much effort, her clean voice offsetting the harsh electronica beautifully.

And with such a bewitching focal point it is impossible not to like this track. Despite it's minor flaws it's relentless rhythm and picturesque melody divert the attention, and rightly so.
