Crystal Stilts : 'Love Is A Wave'

Crystal Stilts sound like the decades surrounding the millennium never happened. Listening to them it is as if Bob Dylan hadn’t gone electric, Tommy Iommi still had his tips and the leaders of Brit Pop were still the apples of their mothers eyes.
Compared with much of recent album ‘Alight Of The Night’ single ‘Love Is A Wave’ is like an adrenaline shot to the neck. Considering it is little more than a slightly pepped up garage pop song says a lot about the confounding drabness of the album than about how good the song actually is.
Although to be honest ‘Love Is A Wave’ isn’t all that bad. Singer Brad Hargett delivers a suitably nonplussed ethereal vocal over a danceable garage pop tune. You can imagine that live this band are terribly, terribly cool in that sort of barely moving non committal sort of way that completely alienates the audience. B-Side ‘Sugar Baby’ sounds too similar to The Doors for comfort, albeit a mind achingly pretentious and boring version.
