Whats New?

Gorillaz Video Screening : Gathered in a small studio in London’s Soho, you have to wonder what could possibly be so impressive about the new Gorillaz video that Britain’s journalists have been shepherded together for a screening. New single “On Melancholy Hill”...
Introducing : Glass Animals : www.4ortherecord.com hit fever pitch this weekend when not 1 but 2 new tracks from the incredible Glass Animals graced our inbox with their presence...
David's Lyre : Masked troubadour, David's Lyre is, like his semi-hidden aesthetic, somewhat of a mystery at present. Although if fairness exists in the world at all...
Frankie & The Heartstrings : Interview : Sometimes, (not often mind), you go to see a band with a vague sense of expectation, born from nothing more than early releases and odd pieces of press, only for, by some twist of fate, this band you considered “fairly decent” until now to prove one of the...
Lunar Youth : Interview : Lunar Youth make the kind of music that makes your heart skip a beat as the emphasis on romance engulfs you in a warm flurry of emotion. It’s really rather lovely. Their nostalgic take on pop, reminiscent of the 80’s penchant for...

Darwin Deez : 'Constellations'

Darwin Deez : 'Constellations'

Released: 6th December 2009

Label: Lucky Number

While it is never made clear if Darwin Deez is the name of the lead vocalist or the entire band, Constellations is a seemingly bland and lazy effort that is unlikely to do much to excite or thrill the Shoreditch scene kids they are likely to be hoping to attract. The band’s apparently kooky positions in the group do little to impress either, avoiding conventional band titles, they have taken on ‘kooky’ ones such as driver, tour manager and liberator instead of the more conventional and relevant vocalist, keys and drums etc, a pretentious move likely to annoy many true music fans who are growing tired of style over substance.

While the band may have style and a slight quirk that gives them something of an edge, musically they are dull, lyrically flat and altogether uninteresting. A lifeless set of guitar chords repeated ad nausea coupled with tedious hand-claps and a lazy excuse for a funk-drum beat make for a song that’s every bit as dull as this description makes it sound

Many music critics have been describing the band as an indie version of The Pussycat Dolls, due to their ‘quirky’ cartoonish nature, although if that is the case, give me the latter band any day.
