Whats New?

Gorillaz Video Screening : Gathered in a small studio in London’s Soho, you have to wonder what could possibly be so impressive about the new Gorillaz video that Britain’s journalists have been shepherded together for a screening. New single “On Melancholy Hill”...
Introducing : Glass Animals : www.4ortherecord.com hit fever pitch this weekend when not 1 but 2 new tracks from the incredible Glass Animals graced our inbox with their presence...
David's Lyre : Masked troubadour, David's Lyre is, like his semi-hidden aesthetic, somewhat of a mystery at present. Although if fairness exists in the world at all...
Frankie & The Heartstrings : Interview : Sometimes, (not often mind), you go to see a band with a vague sense of expectation, born from nothing more than early releases and odd pieces of press, only for, by some twist of fate, this band you considered “fairly decent” until now to prove one of the...
Lunar Youth : Interview : Lunar Youth make the kind of music that makes your heart skip a beat as the emphasis on romance engulfs you in a warm flurry of emotion. It’s really rather lovely. Their nostalgic take on pop, reminiscent of the 80’s penchant for...

Doll & The Kicks

Doll & The Kicks

It could be that music is pretty much my life, so it really does frustrate me when a band that I adore is not signed when there are far too many bands/singers that do not deserve it who are. Does this reinforce the phrase that good things come to those who wait? Or was that just used for a beer advert? Either way, it is frustrating.

Doll & The Kicks is a band that Morrissey loves. He loves them so much he has had them on tour with him. You’d think that to support Morrissey, or to impress him enough so he asks you to accompany him on tour, you’d have to be a pretty special band. Well, you’d be right. Doll & The Kicks are unsigned and underrated.

Morrissey plays a decent sized venue, and sells them out. So imagine being in an unsigned band and the greatest male singer alive asks for you to support him on tour. You’d wee yourself wouldn’t you?! Or, you could go on stage every night for about 40 minutes and have people say you are the best support act they’ve ever seen.

The self titled album is fantastic. To see them live is a completely different experience, and when you see a support band that blows you away, at the end of a gig sometimes you think “I wish I could listen to them all the time” Luckily they have an album out now.

A hardworking band that play with passion. Yet I cannot fathom why they are not signed. Are they just too good? Are labels only interested in solo female singers right now? Whatever the answer is, it will not be good enough.

Doll & The Kicks are out on their own tour soon, I urge you to go see them because well, I don’t need to tell you why. I love them and Morrissey loves them, so go buy the album either from iTunes or their website…NOW!
