So 4ortherecord has arrived, finally, and its been emotional! A desire to create something as far reaching as possible, but at the same time creating a niche and setting us aside from all the other music sites is steadily becoming realised. Editors Ramblings - Goodbye Summer

So this week saw the curtains closing on festival season, Britney beginning her comeback at the MTV VMA’s (with Russell Brand being a general dick as per usual) and Elbow being announced as the winner of the Mercury Music Prize. Good week then.
I’m chuffed for Elbow and justifiably they won, despite my preference being for dubstepping mystery man Burial. Elbow’s prize for their fourth studio album ‘The Seldom Seen Kid’ sincethey formed in 1990 won’t just stop at the award and the 20 grand but will propel them back into the fickle limelight and will ensure the record rises through the charts again and afford them commercial success. Singer Guy Garvey told the ceremony that it was “quite literally the best thing that’s ever happened to us” on accepting the award from Jools Holland and dedicated it to a friend of the band, Bryan Glancy who died in 2006.
The album is a darkly romantic and passionate offering and whilst not to everyone’s liking is a record that people should listen to, whether they are Elbow fans or not. Deserving winners.
And credit to Drowned in Sound who held their own alternative to the Mercury Music prize awards as a reaction to the predictable list of nominations in the Mercuries and the notable ommissions….hello Mystery Jets??? Calling it the Pluto Prize and opening it up to their readers to nominate and vote, their winner was Brummie favourites Johnny Foreigner. (MJ’s came in 4th).
On a completely non-related note my congratulations go to 4or The Record favourites The Pests after they won the final of the singles club at the Cavern in Exeter on Tuesday. Up against 5 other competitng bands from the South West they won the audience and judges vote and will now record and press their debut cd single. Keep a look out or just go to www.myspace.com/thepests
Loads of things coming up with 4or The Record soon, including an interview with Radio 1 dj Annie Mac, The Teenagers, Bestival coverage and some other exciting things happening in America.
