KiD COLA

Starting off with the humble beginnings as drummer for underground indie-blues-ers, The Daze for several years Felix Matthews finally grew tired of the tedium that faces all but a select few indie bands across the globe of playing the same old venues to the same old people over and over again. Taking this indifference to the scene he had been part of for almost four years, he took the opportunity to explore another old love of his, house music. Holing himself up in his studio in Cambridge he slowly taught himself how to use programs such as Ableton and Logic and began to quietly work away on his production throughout the course of 2008. Come November we were finally treated to a display of his own take on the electro-house sound under the guise of KiD COLA, and my God was it worth the wait. 

Almost exploding onto the scene with his first work, a remix of Secret Machines track “Atomic Heels”, he immediately caught the attention of music fans and producers alike across the globe, and promptly cemented it a couple of weeks later when the KiD COLA remix of Crystal Fighters’ “I Love London” appeared on the Internet as well. Within the space of a month he had already won over such scene luminaries as Frankmusik and Kissy Sell Out, who was so keen on the Secret Machines remix he promptly played it on his Radio 1 Show in early December. Not bad going for a months work. 

Comparisons to the lies of Fake Blood are definitely not an overstatement for his brand of bass heavy, squelchy electro, and we are expecting big things from this twenty year old over the course of 2009. Keep your eyes open so you can tell everyone how you were there early.
