Post War Years: 'Whole World On Its Head'
Release Date: 9th March
Label: Chess Club

'Whole World on Its Head' backed by 'Flames Like Tinder' is the next single release from Post War Years on Chess Club, before they release their anticipated debut album later this spring.
Originally from Leamington Spa, Post War Years are a four piece currently residing together in an Old Russian Social Club come hairdressers in East London. With 3 singer/songwriters they have created synth laden and beat driven music that has been hotly tipped, and described by BBC 6 as “a fizzing bombastic attack on the senses, with more bright ideas than most bands manage in a lifetime”.
‘Whole World on Its Head’ retains those qualities while driving their intuitive flare further with it’s soft reverberating synths, 3-way harmonies and a layered chorus you wont forget in a hurry. It’s a perfect fusion of ambient dance music, set around funky angular guitars, and lyrically reveals an imaginative maturity.
Already renowned for their unique take on beat focused and electronic material, ‘Whole World’ is a further revelation in what is fast becoming their own cohesive sound and what could give them wider mainstream appeal.
B-side 'Flames Like Tinder' takes things in a different direction with more focused guitar lines, and darker undertones contained within cynical lyrics and vocal harmonising. It’s a more subdued affair, yet while the electronics are still flourishing, is possibly more akin to the indie-pop genre they also glean inspiration from.
We’ve said it before, but in case you weren’t listening last time, Post War Years are a band capable of big things. So for anyone looking for a genre mash up, comprising intelligent yet accessible music, this single and the majority of their catalogue is vital listening.
