Brazil certainly seems to have it all, with one
of the
most envied teams of the World Cup and a natural born ability to throw
some
shapes and party! With such a perfect combination the World Cup Carnival
has
teamed up with these champions and pulled out a Brazilian legend to
appear at
their 2nd match of the tournament on Sunday 20th June against
Ivory
Coast.
Probably best known for his 1966 cover of ‘Mas Que Nada’,
over the course of a career that has amassed an astounding track record
of
35-plus albums made and millions sold, Sergio Mendes has embarked
on
many adventures. From his early ‘60s Bossa Rio Sextet outings in Brazil,
his worldwide breakthrough Brasil’66 group (and its many iterations),
the
1992 Grammy-winning milestone Brasileiro and his brilliant 2006 outing
on
Concord Records, to Timeless, a Brazilian music-meets-hip hop
collaboration
with Black Eyed Peas’ will.i.am.
Brazil’s first game takes place tomorrow (Tuesday 15 June) against
Korea,
so head on down to The World Cup Carnival in your dancing shoes to get
into
that true carnival spirit.
After a sell-out weekend it is definitely advisable to buy tickets in
advance.
