Silent Film Project : ‘Two Days’
There are a few things in life that signal the start of summer. Maybe it's that first BBQ outside, maybe it's when you rediscover Pimms as a 'tropical treat', or maybe it's the first time you realize you're safe to dry your washing outside. Whenever that moment comes, I've decided I want this song to be playing. The Silent Film Project's debut single 'Two Days' expertly displays how music can sometimes quite brilliantly envoke a strong emotion and paint a real mental picture.
From the moment the song crashes in with simple yet brilliant guitar sliding and splashy cymbals the listener's mind is already remembering that first day of summer. Not often do you hear a song that can expertly conjure the image of having a picnic and a few drinks outside on a sun-kissed sunday afternoon. The vocals of Paul Musgrave here are perfectly apt and fitting to the bouncy and exuberant feel of the song. The introduction of Lisa O' Hara's backing vocals makes you think of alphabeat, and while the similarities are here, It doesn't suffer from the 'catchy for the sake of being catchy' cheesiness. Music really can be fun sometimes. Technicality and creative originality are fine sometimes, but other times you just want a song that will make you want to move and put a smile on your face. Beautifully catchy yet not at an irritating level, there's a high chance this will be on your summer playlist.
Released on the 25th May under KIDS, 'Two Days' doesn't try to be anything it isn't. It's bridge is exactly as you'd expect, the tried and tested song formula is present, and it ends exactly as it began. However, this isn't a drawback but a forte. When it does end, you're left wanting a bit more of it. Now where are my sunglasses....
