The Chemists : 'Love Like No-One Else'

With a name like The Chemists you would, to say the least, expect the perfect prescription – a remedy for rocks ills. I could lie and say these Bristol boys were the next ‘big thing’ however, I prefer to stick to my morals.
Single ‘Love Like No One Else’ commences with a bass drum that is so thumping even Keith Moon would be jealous, and following shortly after is a heavily addictive guitar melody accompanied by strong and dominant vocals. These singled out may not sound like much but together, create the hook that leave your ears wanting more. It is like a musical heroin that leaves you with the excitement an intro should. I wish I could say the same for the trio of tracks that follow, unfortunately the case is closed on such topics. With pointless remixes of ‘Love Like No One Else’ which make up tracks 3 and 4, they are quite frankly a waste of good disk space. I will confess, as you probably have already noticed I am not a fan of remixes, never have been and never will be. The trouser – tucking, spray painting youths may ask why? Quite simply, I urge you to find a remix that doesn’t get tedious after only a minute.
Second track on the EP, ‘Sooner Or Later’ is no more then an album filler with little substance and power to it, not a patch on ‘Love Like No One Else’.
The background for The Chemists is inconsistent with mediocre singles ‘Something For The Weekend’ and ‘Hear Our Song’ in their collection. It is extremely hard to envisage ‘another Indie band’ making the grade, because lets face it, despite the strong single this is all they are. It is increasingly difficult however, to make any kind of statement when the majority of the British Public are becoming brainwashed by ‘good–looking’ female solo artists. Maybe, in a couple of years, if the pendulum has swung to the next generation of Arctic Monkey hopefuls, they will succeed.
