Two Door Cinema Club : 'Tourist History'

Released: 1st March 2010
Label: Kitsune Maison
Full of energy and often striking beauty in their song writing, Tourist History fulfils every bit of promise and hope held out for Two Door Cinema Club's full length debut.
Using their ability to write an astoundingly catchy melody, each track is addictive and satisfying in equal measure. “Cigarettes In The Theatre” proves a worthy opener, building slowly to a verse of sonorous guitar and a chorus of lively rhythms. Instantly identifiable and simply irresistible, it sums up the band perfectly and makes for a good signal of intent.
It is these satisfying melodies that form the basis of the album's stand out performances. Latest single “I Can Talk” struts with limitless confidence amidst pounding synthesisers and falsetto guitars with a chorus that sets up camp in the brain, whilst “What You Know” is a more robust yet equally compelling version of the Two Door guitar treatment. The softer “Something Good Can Work” contains the usual hooks, yet plants Alex Trimble firmly in the spotlight with an assured vocal performance.
In fact, were it not for "Trimble" the album might have proved to be something of a one trick pony. But with his unique tone he adds additional dimensions, as well as complimenting their heady guitar style perfectly. As demonstrated with the wonderfully poised “Do You Want It All”, his voice has the ability to astound both by itself and amidst the most frantic of melodies.
Tourist History is then, an impressive start. Thanks to hooks of a highly infectious nature and a vocalist that defies superlatives, Two Door Cinema Club have a bright future to look forward to.
