Virgil Howe : 'Someday'

Released: Out Now!!!
Label: Scenario Records
Coming from such a rich musical background and with many years of producing under his belt, you would be forgiven for expecting rather a lot from Virgil Howe. It's not often you get an artist that can boast to having a father in Yes, as well as playing drums on a Pet Shop Boys record himself. Yet Howe is evidently different, and lives up to his billing with the wonderfully mellow and somewhat psychedelic “Someday”.
Hailing from London himself, it is easy to imagine yourself in warmer climes when listening to his well crafted track. With a beat that is in no hurry whatsoever and a delightfully rich guitar twanging out an intermittent melody, sunny beaches and golden sands seem that little bit closer. Electronic fuses and fluxes shimmer beneath the surface without intruding on the mellow mood, whilst female vocals ooze calm with every note.
Even with such a minimalist approach Howe manages to accomplish so much. Such skilled implementation speaks volumes for the track, considerably more than many artists manage to achieve with a wealth of instruments at their disposal.
It is this that is the most resounding testament for the track. Even with such a simple approach, Howe produces results that belie it's basic, minimal billing. Cruising from start to finish, “Someday” is an easy going effort of great intelligence.
